International Observe the Moon Night 2014
by Matt White
Due to the expected inclement weather, Bob Horton had made the decision to cancel and reschedule the event. Because of the added publicity, four members; Francine Jackson, Matt Ouellette, Jim Hendrickson, and Matt White, were on hand to give a tour of the facility in lieu of the planned program.
By 8:00 pm the sky had become almost completely overcast and by 8:30, we were considering calling the game. It was then that two vehicles pulled into the driveway so we gave the families a tour of the Alvan Clark refractor. Just as they were ready to depart, the sky opened up allowing us the show our visitors the moon. After the first group left we had another couple show up. They too, had a chance to see the moon before it disappeared behind the clouds fifteen minutes later.
Despite the cancelation and limited viewing time, having the observatory staffed was a worthwhile endeavor.
We closed down around 9:45 pm.
