Remembering Dave Huestis

Remembering Dave Huestis

February 2025  :  Joyce “JT” Towne

by Joyce Towne, Planetarium Consultant & Francine Jackson

It’s always difficult to write about a person known for many years, and Dave Huestis is no exception. His passing, although he was fairly ill, was still a total surprise to all of us who had been Skyscrapers with him for half a century.

He also was someone who kept to himself. His main confidante was his wife Tina, the true love of his life, whom he had met at the Boston Museum of Science,. After her death, Dave was never the same.

We know Dave was a voracious reader, and he had a major collection of antiquarian books. In addition to being an avid amateur astronomer, Dave loved hearing the birds that visited his backyard, and he and Tina often took vacations specifically for birdwatching.

Dave is survived by a brother, Glen.

As he was such a private person, not very much is known about him. If anyone would like to contribute a memory of him, please contact Jim Hendrickson, who will place them all in a future edition of the newsletter.
